Petra: tour guide and landmarks

Petra far exceeds the facade often shown in a photo. This caravan and archaeological site invites you to choose a coherent walking route, with enough time and energy to return.

Heritage Spotted

What distinguishes this place

A Nabatean City

Petra was a crossroads of roads linking, among others, Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia. Its heritage combines constructions and elements carved in rock.

Mountains and parades

The frame includes reliefs, passages and gorges. The relationship between landscape and remains helps to understand the city; it also explains why preparing the distance travelled counts as much as choosing monuments.

Preparation tips Azatour

Build a realistic visit

Setting a route limit

Choose the sectors according to the group level and the announced conditions. Count the return, breaks and climbs. An additional step is only interesting if it does not impose an exhausting return or after closing.

Anticipate heat and weather

Consult local instructions on the day of the visit, including for exposed areas or parades. Provide water, protection and adapted shoes. The manager's alerts or restrictions take precedence over the prepared program.

To be confirmed before booking

  • Check local alerts before entry
  • Calculate distance to and from
  • Check days of validity and accessible areas

Search the current manager from the links in the official folder. Confirm schedules, rates, access and possible closures; these evolutionary elements are not presented here as guarantees.

Useful issues

Does the facade photographed summarize Petra?

No. The site includes a much larger set of remains and landscapes; the route must be chosen according to the time available.

How to integrate this visit into the budget of the stay?

Add ticket, transfer, guide, meals and necessary expenses. Check what your formula already includes. Keep the same motto to compare the options and distinguish the cost of stay from that of this one visit.
